Day 2: The Road of Bones

Leo, Pat, Joe, Murray, Mick T. (left to right) having coffee/tea before dinner over campfire.

Joe staying warm and getting stuff from his bike. It was cold.

Everyone around campfire for night 2 of Road of Bones.

Our campsite in foreground, small streem in between and mountains in background. We camped at base of mountains (however we were already fairly high in elevation). Pat's bike and helmet in the picture.

Murray outside his tent. Pat's is beside with their bikes.

Thank God for Mick T. getting the fire going as soon as we arrived at campsite. Temps dropped fast and it was nice having fire while we set up camp.

Pat and Leo waiting for one of Carmen's wonderful dinners.

Setting up camp.

Man (Joe) and his bike.

Our campsite for the night. It was a fabulous view. Much better in person. We had a stream running beside our campsite. Me, too cold to move.

Joe and Murray: Our men - the Super Heroes!!!!

Isaac waiting for everyone to pull up to where we are camping for the night.

Mick MacDonald approaching mountains in the distance.

He's filming the scenery with GoPro Helmet Camera as he is getting closer to distant mountains.

Everyone stopped waiting for everyone to catch up.

The bridges are getting worse in terms of disrepair the more north and remote we go.

Isaac far far in the distance on the mud road.
Isaac getting farther away in the distance and closer to the mountains.

Isaac riding toward the mountain.

The road in front of Isaac (all of us at one point). What a view!!

The sign warns of hairpin turn, steep grade, falling rocks, road becomes single lane and an "!" mark (whatever does this mean???)

All of us approaching some of the mountain range ahead and passing big Russian trucks.

Everyone pulled over to the side for a break.

Joe riding in distance on gravel road.

Stopping for fuel. Lots of gravel on road.

Pulled up alongside road so people could have pit stop.

The road once we were off the ferry.

Murray riding off ferry with Mick MacDonald waving in background.

Mick T. riding off ferry following Mick MacDonald and Joe walking back onto the ferry.

Me and Murray backing his bike off ferry.

Leo on top of troopie suntanning on the ferry

Our destination circled.

Isaac and Pat looking out over the water.

The view from the front of the ferry.

The road of Bones in red that runs from Yakutsk and goes north toward the Arctic Circle (circled where we were headed). We were 200 kms south of the Arctic Circle on this trip and approx. 200 kms north of Yakutsk which is at the same longitude as Anchorage Alaska. Pretty cold temps.

Our bikes, troopie, Leo, Mick T. and Murray (in background) on ferry.

Mick Mack looking out over the calm waters. He took lots of pictures while on the ferry.

Joe still getting warm. Beautiful day that's warming up but still a bit cold.

Leo on the ferry.

Massive truck. The ferry/barge does carry a lot.

Look at the size of the truck. Joe and the two guys look miniscule in comparison.

The big truck has to come off before we can load our bikes on the ferry.

Murray and Pat waiting with their bikes for the ferry.

Isaac and Mick MacDonald waiting for the ferry

Murray and Pat watch as the armed trucks pass by right next to their bikes.

Armed police with machine guards as they follow and ride in the huge Russian trucks.

Police escorting huge trucks off the ferry with armed guards.

Pat's tire fixed and we are alll waiting for ferry. Suppose to be a couple of hours but we're hoping we will be on next one that comes.

Bike looks pretty interesting without the back tire.

Mick, Pat and Leo determining if it needs a new tire or tube.

Pat is forced to stop because of a flat. Murray and Isaac helping him with Leo. Mick MacDonald
heading back to see what's happened to the group.

The Road of Bones on Day 2.

Heading out Day 2 from our campsite. Beautiful sky but it was very cold.....
