Bike maintenance is a must on this trip. We are in Istanbul, Turkey and I have approx. 4700 kms. on my bike (started with only 66 kms). Our mechanic recommends that we do the chain at least once a day (ıf not twice). Once we go to Mongolia or "the Stans", ıt will be necessary to do the chains everyday and perhaps twice a day.

That is a lot of kilometers to put on a bike in such a short time. But you did that many on the long weekend when you were riding your bike to Vancouver to put it in storage until you arrive back in BC. I am only guessing but are the "STANS" roads as good as the ones you have been riding so far? You will certainly want to keep the bike in good condition.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the weather like there? It is dreary here.
A tornado hit Midland yesterday morning. Several trailers were overturned but no one was hurt. There was also a 5.5 earthquake - it was felt from Ottawa to Windsor two days ago. Let's hope you don't have too many rainy days. That sure makes it difficult for riding.
The G8 is now ending and the G20 is starting in Toronto. The downtown section where it is being held, is all cordoned off - with fences and the whole nine yards. The streets near our hotel have certainly been less travelled in the past two days.
You take care, Mom
